Review of Anna Christie (1930) by Alan W — 18 Sep 2017
Like The Blue Angel this film exists in both English and German versions, though apart from Garbo the cast is totally different in the two. She's fine, but the start of the film is very pedestrian as there's a good half an hour of people talking in a bar before anything much happens - I suppose they wanted to get a lot of talking in when that was still a novelty in film, but it's visually very dull.
Still, the plot isn't bad - it's quite feminist in its positive portrayal of Anna Christie, set beside the double standards of the two men.
