Review of American Pop (1981) by Neil T — 01 Sep 2007
Great roto-scope animation (for 1981).
Blended with good vocal performances and storytelling makes this my personal favorite Bakshi film.
The characters are all related in some way spanning over six decades of great American music. It's mostly fictional of course, characters play songs as if they were the original artists (Bob Seger, Jefferson Airplane etc.) but it's not about accuracy, it's about the feeling you get when you listen to these classic tracks.
These original characters are unforgettable.
A true animation classic.
