Review of Amen. (2002) by Sergio M — 03 Dec 2004
An outstanding film of the Shoah. Brilliant multi-time use of a train with either empty or full boxcars traveling through a Polish-type landscape. Powerful contrasts of the remote princes of the Roman Catholic church living amidst opulence, abundant food while European Jewry is being annilated at thousands per hourly - day in and day out. Stark but emotionally laden contrasts of those few Christians pleading for church leaders - both Protestant and Catholic - to lead Christians in protesting the genocide while the religious leaders turned deaf ears and blind eyes.
A powerful film that should be a classic if one is willing to view the tensions between the morals of religious leaders and the moral needs of their world.
