Review of Air Force (1943) by Will M — 13 Mar 2008
A government-commissioned (I think) response to Pearl Harbor -- released, note the date, quite near that event. But there's no need to treat this as a historical document; it's a compelling film in its own right.
Very starkly written and acted. Might be the quintessential Hawks film of its decade. Your Hawks-fan-o-meter couldn't be better tested than by the famous deathbed scene (scripted by Wm. Faulkner).
If you're choked up, you're a Hawks lover. If you're smirking, you're a heathen.
