Review of Afro Samurai: Resurrection (2009) by Matthew C — 08 Feb 2009
An excellent continuation of the epic story. The visuals are OUTSTANDING, the story thoroughly satisfying. RZA once again does a great job on the music, though this time around the soundtrack seemed to have less direction than in original miniseries.
The plot remains simple and to the point, but at the same time enriches and fills out the surreal universe of Afro Samurai. One of my favourite parts had to be when, during an annual street festival, the DJ (voiced by the RZA) starts spinning some RZA tracks and everyone begins doing traditional Oriental dances.
Really surreal and really cool. Overall, in the end, this film had the impossible task of living up its predecessor's greatness; the original Afro Samurai miniseries BLASTED my mind the first 3-5 times I watched it, it was that good.
This film was excellent, but nothing mind-BLASTING. Definitely a must-see though!
