Review of A Room for Romeo Brass (1999) by Luke S — 05 Jun 2007
Empire said 'Curiously neglected'. Its true, and possibly with the success of this is england people will revisit Shane Meadow's note perfect portrayal of childhood friendship and naivety. The film is underscored by Considines superb performance and hoskin's cameo.
It is the strange twang of the midlands accent, the hilarious and the tragic and the deft handling of the story that constantly reminds us we are watching meadows, no doubt one of the finest of the new breed of british film maker's currently working.
Room for brass is Meadow's purest and most honest work and the film that made considines career.
