Review of 49 Up (2006) by Joe M — 31 Jul 2007
For those who have followed the series up this point, it comes with great welcome that this latest edition is more concisely edited. 49 Up does a much better job of focusing more on new content opposed to rehashing old footage to work as a catch up for the previous installments.
One criticism is that the participants are never asked more profound, deeper questions. It would be interesting to see the progression throughout a person's life on issues like religion, philosophy, existentialism, etc. Even basic morality and value questions are sidestepped with more specific qualifiers that gear the questions more toward class.
That aside, the Up series is a monumental undertaking and one of the best uses of the medium imaginable.
