Review of 49 Up (2006) by Charlie B — 22 Feb 2008
Michael Apted has been following around the same bunch of English kids every seven years since they were seven; now they are 49. Interspersing old and new footage, the film traces most of the children first filmed--a few have dropped out--as they have grown up into adulthood.
The people come from all walks of life, largely prescribed from their childhood. Most appear comfortable and settled, and some have done quite well for themselves. Almost all indicated that they greatly dislike the filming process, yet still continue on.
The stories are almost all compelling and I found myself unable to turn away, even though it was shown on TV. I highly recommend it..
