Review of 47 Ronin (2013) by Cullen B — 13 May 2014

A friend of mine said he had heard this film referred to as "our generation's Plan 9 From Outer Space." Whenever you watch it, make sure you watch it correctly. I've heard people give it negative reviews due to its simplicity, both in story and writing.

However, these are people who did not press play or enter the theater ready to listen to an ancient Japanese folk tale. Essentially, it is as though they asked an old man the story, and then they translated the dialogue directly from the old man's word and gave it visuals and a score.

So, no, it is not this generation's Plan 9; to think of it as such is ignorant of its source material. It is admittedly slow-paced, but understandably so. I loved this film through and through.
