Review of 2046 (2004) by Daniel S — 21 Jun 2008
This is the very BEST of Asian cinema. I'm a huge Asian horror junkie and I'm half in love with Gong Li but this movie is a crowning event for a variety of Asian actors and actresses. The movie itself was beautifully directed, the cinematography is superb, and the story gives off an aura that can be likened to that of the Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, the Science of Sleep, Closer, and hell, a lot more of films.
People may say that they've had high expectations for the film, more likely declare "In the Mood for Love" way better but personally, this film is subtle--a bit boring, if you must say, although I'm biased and I'll never consider it boring--but this film has MORE depth than any other Asian film to date.
The story can be a bit perplexing but if you follow through and listen keenly, in the end, you will be reeling from your seat.
