Review of Zatoichi's Cane Sword (1967) by Steve W — 06 Mar 2015
Zatoichi's cane sword is as iconic to his character as much as Indy's whip or Batman's utility belt. After defending himself from thugs, an older sword maker tells Zatoichi that his sword has reached its peak.
If he uses it one more time, it'll snap. Zatoichi realizes he's going to have to change his lifestyle, and decides to become a full time masseur now that his sword is useless. But when a crime boss puts his thumb down on the town, Zatoichi must do what he does best, sword or no sword.
Featuring a cool dream sequence that lets you really get into the mind of our hero, Zatoichi's Cane Sword is a nice halfway point in the series.
