Review of Wings (1927) by Lucas L — 13 Aug 2009
An epic film in every sense of the term. A true carnival of emotions, ranging from simple warmth and charm found in the comedy of a misunderstood romance, the white knuckling excitement found in the horrors and suspense of aerial warfare, to loss, guilt and turmoil found in the arms of a dying friend.
"Wings" is the first film to win an academy award for Best Picture and has set a high standard for films that have followed. The music is extraordinary, and the effects are flawlessly mixed with real life footage of aerial battles.
