Review of What We Do Is Secret (2007) by Jennifer A — 30 Aug 2008
Although I couldn't take my eyes of the screen, I found that this film lacked an edge, mainly evident in the music/Whiskey/Sunset Strip scenes. Shane was surprisingly captivating as Darby, but I felt that the director knew very little about the punk scene or his subject.
Perhaps some interviews with Germs follower/almost band member Dottie Danger (aka Belinda Carlisle) could have shed some light on the subject. Instead, he barely mentions her. There are, however, some pretty brilliant scenes, such as Darby's death scene and funeral which made a point of demonstrating how life is but a circle.
