A film that contrasts depths of sadness with the strength and beauty of an old soul in a young girl. Niki Caro turns Witi Ihimaera's story into a visual spell that weaves silken threads of culture and family into a tale of the sea.
I love that she used people from the community as well as casting the incandescent castle- hughes. never fails to make me homesick.
