Review of Wavelength (1967) by Michael D — 31 Oct 2012
While I would certainly classify it as a masterpiece, and a very important film, especially for surrealist/experimental film lovers. It's surpassingly structured. Almost a complete bend on a normal structure.
There are certain details we actually forget, even though there is barely anything to truly gather. It seems to establish it's purpose, as to let us understand the film. About halfway through, we realize it zooms, establishing more of a focus to the wall, then we realize it's about the picture.
We wonder what the picture is, and we finally do, and that's the end. Can you see it's resemblance to a classic film structure? While I wouldn't call it's main purpose just that, I just thought it was masterful enough to make it's way into one of the greatest films ever made.
But, just as a normal film, it works entirely.
