Review of Walker (1987) by Kevin H — 25 Sep 2007
Alex Cox's great film about William Walker, filibuster and one-time Nicaraguan president. The parallels between Walker's campaign and US foreign policy (particularly of the Contra deals of the Eighties) are in plain view, with Cox littering the film with anachronistic iconography, such as Zippo lighters and Coca-Cola.
The late Joe Strummer, once of The Clash, composed the soundtrack, which remains one of the singularly most underrated scores in cinema history. It is also shamefully overlooked in the Strummer canon.
