Review of Walkabout (1971) by Kiefer F — 01 Oct 2009
As Roeg's directorial debut, his talents as a cinematogropher are on full display, and the deeper philosophical comments on lust, communication, and the rights of passage in differant cultures are threaded into the visually stunning landscape of the film.
This is also the debut of David Gulpilil, possibly the greatest aboriganal actor of all time, and this might be his best film; as it may also be among the greatest Australian films ever made. Roeg's son and Jenny Agutter are great as the white children, too.
