Review of Viy (1967) by Paavo I — 19 Mar 2008
Absolutely terrible. The witch riding a guy's back and air-surfing in a coffin are so laughable. I do not laugh at horror movies if they pale to modern standards - I laugh if they fail on their own terms.
This film builds no suspense, interest in characters or meaning, and although the clay demonds are almost cool they are ruined by silly showmanship directing.
