Review of Valentino: The Last Emperor (2008) by Maarrk H — 28 Aug 2009
A film that's equal parts fashion, relationship, and the winding down of an epochal artist's lifetime. It's hard not to notice the pain in Valentino's eyes as he wanders the museum exhibition chronicling his past 45 years of design, replaced by the more familiar sparkle of creative energy as he sends a new collection down the runway.
There's so much talk of late of the death of haute couture. That might be over-exaggerating things, but with the exit of someone like Valentino, there's definitely a noticeable void.
