Even if the filmmakers cleverly opted to intentionally embrace the original aesthetics (to not attract listeners -- viewers in this case) and crude production values of the very subject of this documentary (black metal), they have failed.
Bands like Darkthrone, Mayhem, Burzum, Enslaved, Emperor and others succeeded by means of substance, which Until the Light Takes Us is sadly deprived of.
