Review of True Legend (2010) by Michael D — 30 Apr 2010
Enjoyable but over reliant on naff CGI which is overused and stupid at times. The hand to hand combat is well choreographed and probably the most appealing aspect, except for the antagonist who I was particuarly drawn to.
However, CGI knives, blood and dismemberments really really really annoy me because I much prefer prostetics particuarly in these type of films (think Lone Wolf/Zatoichi compared to Takeshi's Zatoichi.
True Legend is closer to the later). One other aspect of uncertainty is the ending in which after the battle with the main villian the film goes into epilogue mode wth an extended ending concerning our hero's rise again after his battle with the Venom geezer.
It does have a place, but perhaps would have benefited more as a sequel. Enjoyable in places but hardly a modern day kung fu classic. Dedicated to Carradine due to it being his last cameo performance.
