Review of Treeless Mountain (2009) by Kenric L — 29 Dec 2009
Watched this at TIFF'08... Cute but heartbreaking tale about two really young Korean girls who are abandoned by their mother to their drunkard aunt and eventually their elderly grandparents. The older sister is forced to grow up very quickly and take care of her little sister, while still trying to maintain hope that their mother will soon return.
The innocence of the little girls having to learn to fend for themselves was captured perfectly. I'm still not sure if I really liked the open-ended conclusion, but I guess sometimes it's more about the journey than the destination itself.
