Review of Trancers (1984) by David B — 19 Nov 2009
A cheap knock-off of most of the other sci/fi movies that were around at the time. Jack Deth, a cop from the future, must time-travel to 1980s L.A. to stop a criminal, Whistler, from murdering the ancestors of the council members of Angel City.
Time travel involves moving backwards through bloodlines and inhabiting the body of an ancestor! Once there, Deth hooks up with a punk girl (Helen Hunt), or at least a middle-aged vicar's idea of what a punk might be like.
The effects are fairly shoddy, with the watch that makes one second last ten being beautifully crap. Despite its naffness, it's still quite fun. The cop who jumps back into an 8-year-old girl ancestor and has to sneak out after bedtime is a particular highlight.
Did I mention that Whistler could turn people into zombies called Trancers?
