It got a bit melodramatic towards the end, but the first half's portrayal of modern ennui (of the Japanese variety) was really quite striking and worthy of one's time. Acting was really quite good, I think.
I was left wondering how much better the movie would have been if they would have just tossed the melodrama and stayed on course.
