Review of Timbuktu (2014) by Robert S — 17 Mar 2015
Great film, but to watch, a film about the impact of ISIS on the natives of Timbuktu. Maybe the hardest scene was watching the execution of a man for playing soccer and a woman for singing in a private home.
They were buried up to their necks in sand first, then their heads were flogged until they died. The protagonist of the film, a small cattle herder living with his wife and daughter in the desert outside the city was executed, too.
His wife was killed by the terrorists trying to save him, leaving their twelve year old daughter orphaned. Too bleak an ending to earn that fifth star from me.
