Review of THX 1138 (1971) by James H — 31 Dec 2008
It amazes me that this movie is next to unheard of, considering it was the sci-fi adventure George Lucas made prior to Star Wars and that we see the THX logo in front of virtually every movie we watch these days. Lucas shows us his raw talent as a briliant filmaker without the use of CGI. the photography and editing are increadible, and both deserved Oscars. However, it does not surprise me that they did not recieve them. why? anyone who knows much about George Lucas will tell you he is a rebel and was trying to break away from corporate hollywood, frustrated with the lack of creative freedom, around the time he was making this film. Its interesting because that is exactly what this movie is about; being unwillingly controled and monitored.
By todays standards, it has a very slow pace, but I recomend it to anyone who has been influenced by Star Wars.
