Review of Threesomething (2018) by Tyler P — 28 Jul 2018
In the vein of the Duplass brother's films, this movie takes a familiar premise and then strikes it with a bolt of lightning. It's realism is earned and organic, with the scenes playing out in beautiful, long, tension filled takes.
The discomfort is purposeful and broken by humor that is weaved in with delicacy. The characters are full and rewarding, and even when the story takes radical turns, they stay consistent. This movie sets out with a clear vision of what it wants to be and then swings for the fences, delivering on all fronts and hitting a home run.
It's shot beautifully, acted beautifully, and lives up to what is at Indie-film making's core- introducing new voices and perspectives to a traditional landscape. It's funny and sincere at the same time, walking that dangerous tight-rope successfully.
Well played.
