Review of The World Unseen (2007) by Elex M — 30 Mar 2009
Goes for a lush romantic feel - the Barry-esque score is pure "Out of Africa" - only to be undermined at every turn by one-dimensional supporting roles, fuzzy plotting and insufficient sweep.
Sarif's debut "I Can't Think Straight" had some of the gauche, can-do appeal of Bollywood, but her follow-up is shot largely in interiors that resemble an afternoon TV movie. The films have heart and soul in evidence, and simultaneously demonstrate that sometimes, that just isn't enough.
Third time lucky, perhaps?
