Review of The Waiting City (2010) by Timothy A — 28 Aug 2010
Outwardly gives the appearance of your standard 'woman goes to foreign country and learns to embrace live and do without a hair straightener' tale, but there's actually plenty wrong with this one, including some of the most cringeworthy overwritten dialogue ever seen in Australian cinema.
Shifting your focus from the central plot when it no longers services the emotional needs of the characters may be a common cinematic device, but this doesn't really work when your macguffin is a small child and you dispense with it by killing it.
