Review of The Trench (1999) by Cheyenne — 30 May 2009
This is a simplistic WWI film with no special effects, no wartime cliches, and it is all the better for it! This moves the focus from the effects onto toe plot and character development. Daniel Craig's characters' accent is odd to say the least! I liked this film, it had a lot of attention to detail yet at the same time I feel there was quite a bit missing.
I thought WW1 battlefields were full of liquid mud and rats? We didn't see any of that, the trench was almost immaculate! Towards the end, I did wonder if the actual ending would let th whole film down but I was quite impressed, it was not totally OTT like it could have been.
