This documentary is a special feature on The Great Dictator DVDs. Kenneth Branagh narrates this dual biography of Charlie Chaplin and Adolf Hitler. It is coincidental that they had anything in common. This really illustrates how different they were despite the mustaches.

The most interesting part about Hitler was how he used the medium of film to spread his hateful propaganda more widely than his public speeches could. The movie spends more time on Chaplin though and how a concept for a Napoleon picture morphed into a more urgent film about a certain contemporary dictator.

This doc contains some behind the scenes color footage from Charlie's brother Sydney's home movie camera of The Great Dictator, which is included more fully on the Criterion Collection disc as well.

There are a wide variety of interview subjects discussing the lives of both of these men.

This review of The Tramp and the Dictator (2002) was written by on 25 Apr 2013.

The Tramp and the Dictator has generally received very positive reviews.
