Review of The Sun (2005) by Antoine S — 27 Sep 2008
A slow-moving film about the Showa Emperor, Hirohito at the time of Japans surrender to the Allies, it shows him isolated in the bunker of the imperial residence, meeting with Supreme Allied Commander General of the Army Douglas MacArthur, and renouncing his divinity.
The director is mainly interested in the psychology of the man in high, almost mythic position as his world collapses. But it is probably more fiction than fact.
