Review of The Spirit (1987) by Valerie P — 04 Apr 2010
I liked this Frank Miller film so much better than Sin City. Instead of sickening, gore-filled violence, this movie has the same gorgeous, white-washed imagery but with more of a comic twist to the fight scenes.
The Spirit is a superhero that interacts with his city as if it were his lover. He has deep conversations with a cat, and bears a wounded heart from his youth. Some of the scenes with the villains were a bit weird and drawn out.
Samuel L. was very bizarre as The Octopus, and I can't describe how strange the scene where he dressed up as a Nazi was. However, I overall enjoyed the story. I know nothing about the comic though, so I'm far from an expert in authenticity.
