Review of The Slumber Party Massacre (1982) by Robert W — 08 Jul 2007
It begins slow, as with any slasher film, and you can pretty much tell what's going to happen, a bunch of girls have a sleep over, some maniac with a drill kills them off one by one, however for 1982, this was quite the slasher masterpiece, in that it was directed by a woman, and instead of showing the women in the movie as completely helpless and just basically fodder for oogling and killing, they band together to decide how to take out the killer. It's a strong type of social commentary, basically commentating on the strength of women, that they aren't just some weak things the killer can easily take care of, as is the case with every other slasher film, and in this one the nudity level is surprisingly low. This is just a classic slasher all around, though with plenty of cool death scenes, and violence to appeal to any young adolescent.
If you are into Slashers, then there is no reason you shouldn't see this.
