Review of The Silent War (2012) by Jy S — 22 Nov 2012
Felix Chong and Alex Mak manage to conjure up a good dramatic thriller with The Silent War.It takes nearly 2 hours to get through the story and it does feel as long as that. That isn't to say that the film is a complete bore, because it isn't.
Sure, the pacing is a bit on the slow side and there isn't much in the way of tensile moments, but the plot elements and story concept are enough to hold interest.Although taking place during a war and revolving around spies, the action and violence is slim to none.
This isn't surprising considering the characters, and even the title. Both Tony Leung and Zhou Xun are the biggest praises of this film. Watching a blind Tony Leung is intriguing and Zhou Xun delivers a sharp performance for her character as well.
At the end of the day, the cast and setting for The Silent War is engaging enough to make it a worthwhile viewing.
