Review of The Selfish Giant (2013) by Bjorn B — 12 May 2014
An excellent British film from first time feature film director Clio Barnard. She really captured the essence of the story, making it on the one hand have this feel of social realism and on the other hand having this sort of fantastical element to it.
That might be me going to in-depth but lots of scenes felt very contrasted. Its very well shot, capturing the story with a very cold colour palette and lots of depth. Clio Barnard is a very important filmmaker making British cinema something to be very proud of.
This is a very fine piece of work with two outstanding performances from Conner Chapman and Shaun Thomas. I thought it was truly great. A-.
