Review of The Scent of Rain & Lightning (2018) by Drew B — 20 May 2017
Incredibly compelling and naturalistic film based on a New York Times Best Seller. The ensemble cast keeps the pace constantly moving in this modern western whodondit. Director Blake Robbins has an uncanny ability of emersing his audience into the gritty real world of his characters.
While writers Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison stick close to author Nancy Pickard's vision they take bold and welcome deviations in their telling of this gripping tale of revenge. Perhaps the most chilling aspect of this film is the performance of Brad Carter- who breaks out in a solid standout role as the downright creepy Billy Croyle.
