Review of The Ruling Class (1972) by John G — 22 Nov 2007
Fantastic film version of Peter Barnes' savage satire. When the Earl of Gurney's nightly autoerotic asphyxia goes fatally awry, the earldom passes to his son Jack (O'Toole), who has been institutionalized for claiming he's Christ.
His family plots to marry him off, produce an heir, and have him locked up for good. But when his shrink finally convinces him he's not the Messiah, Jack takes on another persona: Jack the Ripper.
While the upper-class twits of England would never accept a robed, bearded peace-and-love preacher as one of their own, once he starts foaming at the mouth and spouting savage facsist rants they eagerly welcome him with open arms.
And then the body count rises...
