Review of The Rig (2010) by Aaron H — 23 Sep 2011
Entertaining, but just about as trite as you can get. The movie finishes with so many loose ends that it leaves more questions than answers. That is fine when a film is a profoundly epic masterwork. But given that is more killing-a-rainy-afternoon type viewing, a tighter plot would have improved things, in my opinion, a lot.
Most fundamental to my dissatisfaction were, "What is this thing? and even more important "Why isn't anyone interested in finding out what this is and where it came from? let alone, "What does this thing have against us?" Any semblance of realism went out the window with the characters' remarkable lack of curiosity surrounding the creature trying to kill them.
That said, there are enough cheap scares and gore that it held my attention to the end. Don't go out of your way to see this, but if you see it while channel surfing on a rainy afternoon, it may be acceptable.
