Review of The Promotion (2008) by Andrew F — 14 Oct 2008
It is lovely to find a good comedy in this day and age. But to find a good comedy with heart? That is priceless.
The movie revolves around a huge grocery store, and I guess the fact I'm somewhat familiar with the work that goes around there made it all the more funny for me. But to me, the big surprise was the incredible mix of humor and warmness that exudes from this film. First of all, the humor is not lazy physical humor, it is actually very subtle. And still I laughed out loud. How I do love a good script.
The characters of both actors are likable, which creates a situation where you kind of want both of them to get the job. Still, the meat of the movie are the shenanigans they get into while trying to get the upper hand in the managerial race. And the going gets pretty hilariously cunning.
An extremely positive surprise for me. For some reason, Gil Bellows amused me in every scene he was in, even if he didn't do anything.
