Review of The Possession of David O'Reilly (2010) by Mark M — 19 Jan 2011
An interesting, independent horror film that takes the possession genre in slightly new directions. There are some genuinely creepy moments in this film, but it never quite develops them into something coherent and memorable.
Still, there are couple of scenes that make it worthy of three stars. An austere cinematic aesthetic and a supernatural ontology that seems partly derived from Bergman's Hour of the Wolf don't quite save this film from being disposable.
Despite all its flaws, boring moments, and overly-pretentious choices that don't fit, The Possession of David O' Reilly is still an enjoyable if not memorable horror film from the IFC Midnight series.
