Review of The Place Promised in Our Early Days (2004) by Matt R — 05 Jan 2008
From the one who brought you Hoshi no Koe...Shinkai! One of the best anime films I have ever seen. The setting develops itself over the course of the movie, allowing for focus on the characters and their development.
I would consider this as a sci-fi romantic drama, well animated and with well matched music that manages to keep a dreamy feel about it. The characters may be simplistic, but that doesn't detract from the lovely storytelling and, in my opinion, adds to the film.
To those of you who dislike serious plot devices...you're in the wrong genre. Place Promised has some pretty mature themes throughout and some violence so I'd suggest this for 13+, but don't let that stop you.
