Review of The Pit (1981) by Jt K — 23 Nov 2013
Little-known "creepy kid" flick that's a strange mash-up; a demented coming-of-age/monster movie. Jamie is a creepy kid on the cusp of adolescence. He's perv-y, awkward and his only friend is his teddy bear (who speaks to him in his own voice)..until he discovers some new pets. There's a disturbing character study buried in the film's first 60 minutes desperately trying to get out; not that that ambition stops it from being kinda slow, poorly directed and spottily acted.
Then, any potentiality interesting subtext to thrown out the window during a random (and poorly executed) creature rampage. All in all, it's lark; a relic of the earlier 80's drive-in second features.
