Review of The Orphanage (2007) by Craig G — 23 Jun 2010
Probably the best script in the history of "genre" films. Nothing, not even the smallest detail, is wasted. Bayona's direction is assured, appropriate, and never trendy or flashy. The characters are wonderful, the casting is perfect, and this is the only horror film that can reliably make me cry. This is *not* a slasher film, and there is nearly no gore. It's a wonderfully psychological piece that will give you the willies, break your heart, and help you soak through a box of Kleenex.
And it's eye candy. See it on Bluray or the big screen. It's one hell of a movie.
