Review of The Open Road (2009) by Steve S — 20 Dec 2009
*** (out of four).
This is a hard movie in some ways to rate. It has many drawbacks. It is manipulative by creating situations that are only created in movies. For example: Mary Steenburgen is a woman going in for major surgery. She asks her son to find her ex-husband and bring him to her. This begins a long road trip with the father and son. The film also features many road trip cliches along the way.
But, while being sentimental, and familiar, it does have heart and features a decent performance from Justin Timberlake and a very good one from Jeff Bridges. I also must admit I can be a sucker for a road trip movie.
