Review of The Lunchbox (2013) by Robert S — 01 Apr 2014
Sweet, good-hearted movie that blends a kind of star-crossed May-December love story (from afar) with the examination of an intrenched tradition in urban India, lunches brought in from local restaurants for the workers doing administrative work in gym-size rooms filled with desks a few feet apart.
The neglected wife of a man occupying one of the desks tries to regain her philandering husband's attention - and affections - by preparing special lunchboxes delivered by one of the "delivery services" in Mumbai.
The first lunchbox gets delivered by mistake to a melancholy widower nearing early retirement. The two lonely hearts begin to exchange notes in the lunchbox - and to reveal things about themselves they don't tell another soul.
