Review of The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943) by Martin J — 06 Apr 2008
Magical. Begins and ends on the same charicature of a pompous "blimp" of an upper class career soldier and V.C. but in between takes us on a sentimental journey that fills you with such a reservoir of good hope for the man who's right mindedness and codes come to mean nothing in the war against facism.
The learning to fight back scene on this page is one of the best scenes in british cinema. Only bettered by Anton Walbrook being interviewed as a refugee.
