Review of The Kid (2010) by Cameron J — 03 Sep 2011
I didn't watch the whole film. It was told in flashback and in the modern part of the story a man is hell-bent on committing suicide. So it's a trip down memory lane while the pills kick in. Don't know about anyone else but that's a bit of a buzzkill beginning to a film and it also gives away the ending too, which is unsporting.
The best bit was Ioan Gruffudd in a Scouse accent being a cool teacher. Not much backstory, he tried to help the beaten up school boy, who then gets moved to another school. I watched for a few minutes after that scene, in vain, hoping Ioan Gruffudd might reappear, but no.
Sorry to everyone else in this film, you're just not as much fun to watch. I'm working through all of Ioan Gruffudd's film career and life's too short to watch some hideous misery-lit memoir made into a film.
