Review of The Heavenly Kings (2006) by Amy C — 15 Nov 2008
First of all let me declare that Daniel Wu is one handsome dude! When I went asked for this film at the Asian video library the guy thought I was nuts. 'This is not nice film. I wait and wait for film to come but it did not come!' he said.
Daniel Wu is a clever chap too. To choose such a genre for a directorial debut (it is, right?) takes lots of confidence. I would like to believe it was deliberately shot like that. It has some very funny moments and the entire subtext is about how we sell our souls.
Seriously recommended.
