Review of The Great Ecstasy of Robert Carmichael (2005) by Private U — 15 Mar 2008
The key themes in this film are bored youth and internal, violent emotions that can spontaneously erupt, even from the most unlikely of sources. It's an interesting idea certainly but so little actually happens for the majority of this film that everything is diluted and it's hard to care very much about what you are seeing.
The film is notable though for a horrific rape/murder scene at the end that is unlike anything I have ever seen. I actually had to look away at one point, the first time I remember ever having to do that!
